Installation on Hikvision signage displays

Hikvision Android signage displays are supported from Android client version 5.0. The installation follows the standard Android steps, with a few Hikvision-specific settings so the display always starts into Wallboard.

Requirements

  • A Hikvision Android signage display
  • The latest Wallboard Android client (version 5.0 or newer) on a USB stick
  • Network access for the display: Wi-Fi or Ethernet

Installation

  1. When the display starts for the first time, decline Focsign (Hikvision's own signage application) when it is offered.
  2. Install the Wallboard application from the USB stick, but do not open it yet.
  3. Open the Settings application:
    • Network: set up Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
    • App Management → Run at Startup: select Wallboard Display from the list.
    • App Management → Default App → Homepage App: select Wallboard Display from the list.
  4. Restart the display.
  5. To continue, follow the standard Android installation guide.
One automatic restart

After the first launch, the Wallboard application sets itself up on the display and then restarts the display once. This is expected, not an error — wait for it to come back up and continue the setup.

Good to know

  • Locking: the Lock function is not used on Hikvision displays. The Run at Startup and Homepage App settings above keep the display in Wallboard after every restart.
  • Remote management: remote application updates, restart, brightness, rotation and screenshot preview all work from the Wallboard editor.
  • If the display behaves like a generic Android device instead (for example, working hours do not switch the display off), contact us at [email protected].

Working hours on Hikvision

Hikvision displays follow the Device's Working hours, and the two Turn off types behave differently:

  • Device: the display's own timer powers it fully off for the off period and back on at the start of the next working period. Every wake is a full startup.
  • Screen: only the backlight is switched off; the display keeps running.
Powered on during the off period

With the Turn off type set to Device, if the display is switched on during its off period (for example, while installing outside working hours), it switches itself off again about 2 minutes later. This is expected. It does not happen when the next working period starts within a few minutes.

Timing limits

The Hikvision timer works to the minute, and an off period must be longer than 2 minutes, otherwise the display may ignore it. Keep this in mind when testing working hours with a short schedule.

WebView

Replacing the WebView is not advised

Replacing the WebView is not advised on Hikvision displays: the Wallboard Android client does not support WebView replacement on these models, and the firmware tested by Wallboard shipped its own, older WebView. Keep the display on the WebView that comes with its firmware.
