Replace Preview Image

Introduction​

Wallboard automatically generates a preview image (thumbnail) for every Content, Slide, and Playlist you create. This thumbnail is displayed on content cards throughout the management interface — in the Contents menu, content selectors, channel configuration, and other areas where content items are listed.

You can replace this auto-generated thumbnail with a custom image of your choice.

This feature only affects the thumbnail shown in the management UI. It does not change what is displayed on devices or in the browser content preview.

When to use this feature​

  • The auto-generated preview does not accurately represent the content
  • You want to use a branded or descriptive thumbnail for easier identification
  • You have a content with dynamic or data-driven visuals where the generated preview may appear blank or incomplete

Replace the preview image​

  1. Navigate to the Contents menu.
  2. Locate the Content, Slide, or Playlist whose preview you want to replace.
  3. Right-click on the item to open the context menu.
  4. Select Replace preview image.
  5. In the file picker, select a PNG image to use as the new thumbnail.

The content card will update to show your custom image.

Accepted format

Only PNG files are accepted as preview images.

Remove the custom preview image​

To revert back to the auto-generated thumbnail:

  1. Right-click on the item to open the context menu.
  2. Select Remove preview image.

The thumbnail will revert to the auto-generated preview.

Good to know​

  • Minimum role required: Content Editor
  • The custom preview is stored separately from the content itself — replacing or removing it will not modify the content in any way.
