Restrictions and dedicated changes

Compatibility

Simple playlists have settings that are not necessary to ePaper devices, so the editor interface got a simplified version in order to avoid unnecessary settings to be set

  • Once a playlist is set to ePaper mode, it cannot be reverted to a simple playlist, nor can an existing playlist be modified to become ePaper compatible.
  • Playlists created with ePaper mode can only be assigned to ePaper devices as content or emergency content.
  • Certain settings from both Playlist settings and Playlist page settings has been removed
    • Basic tab (e.g., Aspect ratio, Transition, Mute, Synchronized playlist) and the entire Advanced tab of Playlist settings are not available for ePaper-compatible playlists.

Image duration

ePaper devices are not always connected to the server, rather they wake up after sleeping for a set amount of time and re-check on the server if anything has changed in the assigned playlist

  • Instead of individual image durations the device's page duration option will determine the time an image is shown for.

Less page types

ePaper devices cannot play dynamic contents, and dynamic elements in it such as audio and video files

  • Videos and audio files cannot be added to ePaper-compatible playlists.
  • The only exceptions are Gifs, in that case we just use the Gif's first frame.
  • Supported file types: bmp, png, jpg, jpeg, webp, gif

Embedding and usage

Because ePaper compatible playlists have been created in a simplified version of the Playlist editor, they are not eligible to be played inside other playlists or even channels or sub-channels

  • Playlists with ePaper compatible mode cannot be added to channels and sub-channels.
  • Only playlists with ePaper mode can be embedded into ePaper-compatible playlists.
