How to Create a Content with a LinkedIn Feed

This guide walks you through creating a content layout using a single Media Widget to display LinkedIn posts, generated via RSS.app. The Media Widget will display images on the left and text (description) on the right by default.

1. Generate the RSS Feed from LinkedIn
Use RSS.app:
- Watch this video tutorial for a step-by-step guide.
- Visit RSS.app and create a custom RSS feed by entering your LinkedIn page URL.
- Customize filters (e.g., hide posts without images) if needed.
- Copy the generated RSS feed URL.
2. Add the RSS Feed to Wallboard
Navigate to the Datasources Menu:
- Click Settings in the navigation bar.
- In the expanded submenus, click Datasources.
Add a New Datasource:
- Click the + button.
- Select RSS as the data type.
- Name the datasource (e.g., “LinkedIn RSS Feed”).
- Paste the RSS feed URL in the URL field.
- Adjust the Refresh Interval (e.g., 3600 seconds).
- Enable Cache External Sources to store images and text locally for offline playback.
- Click Save to add the datasource.
3. Set Up the Content
Create a New Content:
- Navigate to the Contents section on the Wallboard dashboard.
- Click the + icon and select Create Content.
- In the popup:
- Name your content (e.g., “LinkedIn RSS Content”).
- Set the resolution to 1920x1080.
- Name your content (e.g., “LinkedIn RSS Content”).
- Click Create and Open to enter the Content Editor.
Set a Background for the Content Page (Optional):
- Open the Page Tab in the Properties Panel.
- Set the background image or color to replace the default blank white canvas.
4. Add and Position the Media Widget
- Drag the Media Widget from the Widgets Panel onto the canvas.
- Resize the Media Widget to Fullscreen:
- In the Main Tab under Widget Properties, scroll down to the Size & Position section and press the following options in order:
- Width: "Set width 1/1 of page"
- Height: "Set height 1/1 of page"
- Horizontal: "Align left"
- Vertical: "Align top"

5. Bind the Media Widget to the Datasource
Bind the Media Widget:
- Select the Media Widget on the canvas.
- In the Main Tab under Widget Properties, click Bind to Data.
- Select the LinkedIn RSS Feed datasource from the dropdown.
- Enable Skip Uncompleted to avoid displaying incomplete posts.
- Press Save to confirm your changes.
Adjust the Display Duration:
- Set the Duration property to control how many seconds each post will display (e.g., 8 seconds).
6. Customize What is Displayed in the Media Widget
Change Partial Display Properties:
- Scroll down to the Partial Display section in the Main Tab.
- Ensure Media, Description, and Media Background are checked, and untoggle Title.
The Media Background option provides a blurred background behind the image. If the blurred background doesn’t look good, scroll up to the Media Fit setting at the top of the Widget Properties in the Main Tab and change it to Cover, which will crop the photo instead.
7. Style the Media Widget
Set Custom Colors:
- In the Other Tab under Widget Properties, set:
- Card: Set the card background color (e.g., #d1202c).
- Body: Set the text background color (e.g., #d1202c).
Adjust Media Padding & Content Padding:
- Set Media Padding to 0.
- Toggle the Custom option under Content Padding, and set:
- Top: 0
- Right: 2
- Bottom: 0
- Left: 2
Dynamic Font Size:
- Leave the Dynamic Font Size property enabled at 50.
Set the Font Color & Style:
- Set the Font Color to white using the color picker in the Other Tab.
- Set the Font Style to bold for better emphasis.
Set the Description Character Limit:
- In the Other Tab, scroll down to the Character Limits section.
- Set the Description field to 315.
Set Slide Mode:
- Scroll down to the Feed section in the Main Tab.
- Set Slide Type to Fade for smooth transitions.
8. Final Adjustments and Preview
Align Widgets:
- Use the alignment tools in the top toolbar to ensure the Media Widget is centered.
- Fine-tune positioning using the arrow keys if needed.
Set Feed Order to Random (Optional):
- In the Main Tab, set Feed Order to Random if you want a different post to display each time the content is played.
Save the Content:
- Click the Save icon (floppy disk) to confirm your changes.
Preview the Content:
- Click the Preview button (play icon) to see your content in action.
