Edit Mute

When a video or audio file is muted, its audio is silenced during playback — no matter where the file is used (playlists, content, channels, etc.).

This is useful when you want to display a video for its visuals only, or when audio playback is not appropriate for the environment.

Muting a file does not remove or modify the original audio track. It simply tells the player to suppress audio during playback.

Muting during upload

You can mute a file right away when uploading it:

  1. In the Add file upload modal, add your video or audio file to the upload queue.
  2. Enable the Mute toggle on the file before uploading.

The file will be muted from the moment it enters the File Manager.

Muting an existing file

  1. Navigate to the Files menu.
  2. Right-click on a video or audio file to open the context menu.
  3. Select Edit mute.
  4. Toggle the mute switch on and close the modal.

A mute indicator will appear on the file card, making it easy to identify muted files at a glance.

Unmuting a file

  1. Right-click the muted file to open the context menu.
  2. Select Edit mute.
  3. Toggle the mute switch off and close the modal.

The mute indicator will disappear from the file card.

Good to know

  • Video and audio files only. The Edit mute option is not available for images, PDFs, fonts, or other file types.
  • Applies everywhere the file is used. Once muted at the file level, the file plays silently in every playlist, content, or channel that references it.
  • Mute inheritance. Audio can also be muted at higher levels — per playlist page, per playlist, or per content widget. A parent-level mute always takes precedence: if the parent is muted, child items cannot override it.
  • No effect on the file itself. The mute flag is stored separately and does not alter the original file.
  • Minimum role required: Content Editor
