Metrics

Metrics helps you monitor the health and performance of your digital signage devices. View real-time and historical data to ensure your devices are running smoothly and identify issues before they impact your content.

What You Can Do with Metrics

With Metrics, you can:

  • Monitor device health and performance
  • Compare performance between devices
  • Track trends over time
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues quickly
  • Plan for device maintenance and upgrades

Getting Started

Accessing Metrics

You can access Metrics in two ways:

  1. From the Analytics Menu: Navigate to Analytics >> Device Metrics
  2. From a Specific Device: Go to Devices, select a device, then click the Metrics tab

Choosing a Time Period

Select how far back you want to view metrics:

  • Last 24 hours - for daily monitoring
  • Last 7 days - for weekly trends
  • Last 30 days - for monthly overview
  • Last 90 days - for long-term analysis
  • Custom range - for specific time periods (minimum 15 minutes)
tip

Your selected time period is saved and will be remembered for your next visit.

Selecting a Device

  1. Use the device dropdown to choose which device to monitor
  2. Type in the search box to quickly find your device
  3. The device's online/offline status appears next to its name

Understanding the Metrics

Metrics organizes performance data into easy-to-understand categories:

Uptime and Connectivity

Shows when your device is online and connected:

  • Blue blocks indicate online periods
  • Empty blocks show offline periods
  • Red bars show reconnections
  • Green block shows set working hours configuration
  • Track connection stability and reboots

CPU information

  • Usage percentage - how hard the processor is working
  • Process and thread counts

Graphic information

  • Frames per second

Memory Usage

  • System memory - overall device memory
  • Application memory - Wallboard app usage

Storage

  • Available space percentage

Network Performance

  • Network RX system
  • Network TX system
  • Response time from server

System Status

  • WiFi signal strength (1-5 bars)
  • WiFi signal level
  • Internet connectivity
  • Battery level (for mobile devices)

Event Logs

  • Info messages (blue) - normal operations
  • Warnings (yellow) - potential issues
  • Errors (red) - problems requiring attention

Application Events

  • App starts and crashes
  • System errors

Events and interactions

  • User interactions
  • Sensor triggers

Using the Interface

Reading the Charts

Each metric displays as a line chart showing changes over time:

  • Hover over any point to see exact values
  • Green indicates normal operation
  • Yellow shows warning levels
  • Red indicates critical issues
  • Gray means no data available

Comparing Devices

To compare two devices side-by-side:

  1. Click the Compare button (scale icon)
  2. Select a second device from the dropdown
  3. View both devices' metrics on the same charts
  4. Different colored lines distinguish each device
  5. Click X to stop comparing

Customizing Your View

Hide metrics you don't need:

  • Click Hide in any metric block header
  • Hidden metrics appear as buttons at the bottom
  • Click a button to show that metric again
  • Use "Show All" to restore everything

Maximize charts for detail:

  • Click the expand icon on any chart
  • View in full screen for detailed analysis
  • Press ESC or click minimize to return

Practical Tips

Daily Monitoring Routine

  1. Check device uptime first - ensure all devices were online
  2. Review error counts - investigate any red warnings
  3. Check CPU and memory - look for consistently high usage
  4. Verify network connectivity - ensure stable connections

Troubleshooting Performance Issues

When a device seems slow:

  1. Check CPU usage - is it consistently above 70%?
  2. Review memory usage - is it near capacity?
  3. Look at storage - is the disk almost full?
  4. Check network metrics - are response times high?
  5. Review crash and error events

Planning Device Upgrades

Use 30-day views to identify devices that need attention:

  • Consistent high CPU or memory usage
  • Frequent crashes or errors
  • Growing storage usage
  • Poor network performance

Common Questions

Why does a metric show "No Data"?

This can happen when:

  • The device is offline
  • The device just came online (wait 30 minutes)
  • The metric doesn't apply to that device type
  • There's a connection issue

How often do metrics update?

  • Devices send metrics every 5 minutes
  • Status updates appear nearly instantly
  • Use the refresh button for latest data
