Slide duration based on

The Slide duration based on setting allows you to dynamically set the duration of a slide by selecting a widget that has its own playback duration. This is an optional feature that gives you control over how long your slide plays when used in playlists.

Where to find this setting

You can find the Slide duration based on selector in the top toolbar of the Slide Designer.

How it works

This setting is optional - you can choose whether or not to link your slide duration to a widget:

  • With a widget selected: The slide's duration automatically adjusts to match the selected widget's native duration. When used in a playlist, the page length will be equal to the selected widget's playback time.
  • Without a widget selected: The slide will use the default duration settings from the playlist or channel configuration.
Save reminder

If you don't select a widget and click the Save button, a popup will appear asking if you want to select a widget for the slide duration. This helps ensure you've made a conscious choice about your slide's duration behavior.

Supported widgets

The following widgets can be selected for duration-based timing:

  • Video - Matches the video file's length
  • Videos - Matches the total playback duration of the videos widget
  • Audio - Matches the audio file's length
  • Gallery - Matches the gallery widget's total display duration

Usage example

If you add a Video widget to your slide that plays a 30-second video:

  1. Select the Video widget from the Slide duration based on dropdown in the toolbar
  2. The slide duration will automatically become 30 seconds
  3. When used in a playlist, this slide will play for exactly 30 seconds

If you don't select any widget, the slide will use whatever duration is configured in your playlist or channel settings.

When to use this feature

Consider using this feature when:

  • Creating slides with video or audio content where the slide should play for the entire media duration
  • Building playlists with slides that contain galleries or multiple videos
  • You want to ensure slides don't cut off before media finishes playing
  • You need dynamic duration that updates if you change the widget's content

You can skip this setting when:

  • You want to use standard playlist duration settings
  • Your slide doesn't contain time-based widgets
  • You prefer manual control over slide timing in the playlist editor
